Bank of Occupational Health Nurses

Job title: Occupational Health Nurse

Reports to: Clinical Manager 

Accountable to: Head of Clinical Services 

Key working relationships: Senior OHAs, Clinical Manager, Head of Clinical Services, Operations Manager, Contracts Manager, Clients

Job purpose: To provide a professional and efficient service delivery to our clients and meet our contractual obligations.   To undertake health checks to assess fitness for work/University placement, implementation and participation in vaccination and immunisation programs including phlebotomy and health surveillance programmes where indicated.

​

The role will include sickness absence management, complex case management and post offer health assessments. You will be expected to use your specialist clinical skills to provide expert, evidence-based assessments and produce high standard and quality management advice reports. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

​​​

  • Deliver an effective occupational health service to healthcare workers and students and employees within NHS Trust or University contracts.

  • Assure compliance with regulatory requirements related to clinical practice

  • Assess for vaccination and screening purposes to ensure compliance with national standards for healthcare workers.

  • Administer vaccines according to Green Book schedules and OHWorks Written Orders

  • Ensure that all data regarding blood tests and immunisations are accurately recorded

  • Completion of Risk Assessment following a blood or body fluid exposure incident and ensure that appropriate advice and follow up is provided according to protocol.

  • Participation in contact tracing programs in the event of employee exposure to a communicable disease.

  • Assist in delivery of health surveillance programmes where indicated

  • Assist in delivery of the influenza vaccination programmes.

  • Ensure the clinical environment is maintained to the required standard

  • Ensure proper vaccine storage is maintained in line with OHWorks policy and national guidance including maintenance of the cold chain during transportation and when carrying out clinics at satellite venues.

  • Ensure clinical supplies are stored and maintained appropriately and stock take is completed as per OHWorks protocol.

  • Compliance with standard infection control precautions including hand hygiene, use of PPE, handling and storing of clinical specimens, and safe handling and disposal of sharps

  • Participate in all clinical governance activities including clinical audit and training and competency checks.

  • Comply with OHWorks policies and protocols.

  • Maintain professional knowledge and adherence to evidence-based guidance.

  • The post holder is expected to develop their IT skills.

  • The post holder may be asked to undertake duties at any location within the Company, in order to meet service needs.

  • The Company operates a strict No Smoking Policy.

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

​

  • Registered Nurse on the NMC register.

  • Self-motivation to learn and improve clinical effectiveness is essential.

  • Demonstrable experience in immunisation and phlebotomy.

  • Demonstrable experience in health surveillance skills if required

  • Good IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and a willingness to develop IT skills further and become proficient in the use of the OHWorks IT system (training will be provided).

  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.

  • Accurate reporting skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy is required.

  • Multi-tasking skills.

  • Well-organised, capable of turning their hand to a variety of tasks.

  • A team player, but able to work on their own initiative and be self-sufficient.

  • Flexible and positive approach to work with a ‘can do’ attitude.

  • Self-awareness and a sense of respect for others irrespective of gender, social class, race or sexual orientation.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
