Marina Waters
Marina Waters
Chief Executive Officer

Marina, our founder and CEO, has worked in Occupational Health for more than 25 years, most of it at senior management level.  In addition to her Occupational Health background she also has a strong background in nursing management.  She has worked as Principal Nurse for Medicine and the Elderly, Head of Nursing for Acute Care and Assistant Director of Nursing and Patient Care in a London Hospital, so is well aware of the pressures and challenges in organisations.  It was these roles that influenced her delivery of services in Occupational Health having been only too aware of how staff absences impact on the delivery and effectiveness of services.

Marina started her Occupational Health career working as a factory nurse for Lyons Maid.  Her role included visiting the factory floor where staff were packing ice-lollies and she recognised the effects repetitive work had on staff.  She administered first aid on the factory floor when required and oversaw the introduction of the COSHH regulations and set about training staff and managers on them.  She set up a noise conservation programme when the Noise at Work regulations came into force, taught Basic Food Hygiene to certificate level and was actively involved in the legal requirements around the Food Hygiene Regulations and the implications this created for staff screening.  Marina taught First Aid to certificate level to ensure compliance with the First Aid Regulations and was actively involved in Health and Safety.

From Lyons Maid she worked for the Daily Telegraph as an Occupational Health provider and worked for the next ten years providing Occupational Health in the NHS at hospitals such as St. Mary's, Newham University Hospital and Barts Health NHS Trust in London.  She has a strong clinical background regarding all aspects of providing Occupational Health for clinical staff.

Marina is a Registered Nurse and a Specialist Practitioner in Occupational Health, on the Specialist Practitioner register.  She holds a Masters degree in Occupational Health and Safety and is an ACAS trained Mediator.  As a visiting lecturer at London South Bank University, she teaches on the Case Management module.

Originally from Leeds, Marina has lived in the South East for most of her life. She balances a hectic work schedule with looking after her twins.  Marina's favourite thing about running OHWorks is meeting new clients, assessing their needs, helping to turnaround OH services when they are failing, and she takes great pleasure from delivering a service to the client, which is both effective and responsive.
